January 27th & 28th, 2018Edinburgh Wedding ExhibitionMurrayfield Stadium

Edinburgh Wedding Exhibition

Edinburgh Wedding Exhibition

As an Edinburgh wedding photographer, I was really excited about exhibiting at the SEM’s flagship wedding exhibition – Edinburgh Wedding Exhibition at the famous Murrayfield Stadium.

Although I have exhibited with SEM at their other wedding exhibitions – Glasgow’s wedding exhibition (Hamden Park Stadium), Perth wedding exhibition (Perth Racecourse) and Loch Lomond wedding exhibition (Loch Lomond Shores), this was the first time I did the Edinburgh show.

I was very impressed it was an amazing wedding exhibition that literally had the happy couple’s whole wedding covered under one roof. With over 120 suppliers ranging from photographers, venues, bridalwear, groomwear, jewellers, cakes, bands, cars, celebrants, hair and beauty, florist, stationary, hen and stag do, catering, fireworks etc it really has it all to make a wedding extra special.

As well as speaking with all the suppliers the bride and groom and their entourage has a fully packed day with live band performances, cat walks, Mr and Mrs Competition and even a prosecco bar that always keeps everyone happy.

As an Edinburgh wedding photographer there is nothing better than speaking to all the brides and grooms and their friends and family. I love getting to hear about their plans for their wedding day it really is very exciting. Whether they are newly engaged or just at the end of their wedding preparations with a few months away from the big day, everyone is buzzing with excitement.

As there was 13 wedding photographers, I was honoured to be asked to photograph the catwalk, both of the catwalks were full with many people standing at the back. The flower girl stole the show with a lots of aaaawwwww’s and claps coming from the audience whenever she walked down the catwalk.

Norton House Hotel Wedding

As a regular Norton House Hotel wedding photographer, I love the way you can create such beautiful couple pictures amongst the gardens and woodland within the Hotel grounds. This 1840 hotel is a stunning romantic Scottish wedding venue and with it being only 5 minutes from Edinburgh Airport and 20 minutes from the city centre it is in an ideal location.

Napa and Steven first met in Thailand and it was there that they got married at the start of this year. As there were a lot of friends and families that couldn’t make the Thailand ceremony they decided to have a second ceremony here in Scotland, so they would welcome Napa to Scotland in style. It was lovely to see that a lot of Napa’s family managed to make it over to Scotland for the ceremony much to the delight of the newly weds.

It was a typical wet Scottish day with lots of rain and wind but we managed to get a short break in the weather and got some photos around the beautiful Norton House Hotel grounds before the heavens opened up and down came the rain again.

After the photos the happy couple spent a lot of time with family and friends and it was a good chance for Napa to meet all of her new Scottish family, and they decided a receiving line was a great way to meet and greet everyone.

Shortly afterwards Napa and Steven cut the wedding cake and then this was followed by the speeches, the best of the speeches came last with the best man telling very funny stories about Steven in his younger days, at times they were borderline x-rated, but it had lots of laughter from family and friends.

Gourock Wedding

I first meet Mo at a wedding that she was the ceremonies officer and I was the photographer, since then we have worked together at other weddings. As Mo has done hundreds of weddings and worked with many photographers when she asked me to be her wedding photographer it was a great honour.

I have met up with Mo and Scott on several occasions and you can tell they are a happy couple and are made for each other, they made it clear they were looking for a fun wedding with lots of laughter and nothing too formal. With Mo and her family being from the West of Scotland they support Rangers and Scott and his family from the East of Scotland supporting Hearts they have a friendly rivalry.

Both Mo and Scott’s have elderly relatives that unfortunately can’t travel so they decided to have the best of both worlds with the ceremony in Gourock and the reception in Edinburgh (with a wedding cake in both places).

Despite the weather it didn’t damper the spirits, and after a fun ceremony with laughter and (happy) tears, we managed to get a short break in the weather and got out to take some photos before the rain started again. As a regular Gourock wedding photographer, the scenery really is breathtaking.

During the speeches, Mo’s father did an “unexpected” speech and presented Scott with a present, when Scott unwrapped the gift, there was the biggest cheer and laughter as in Scott’s hand was a brick with the word Rangers written on it – 1-0 to the West of Scotland.

After the meal and first cake cutting it was over to Edinburgh for the reception at Prestonfield Golf Club. It wasn’t long until it was time to cut the second wedding cake of the day followed by the bride and groom’s first dance. There were lots of smiling and laughter throughout the evening as well as a very busy dance floor.

Dundas Castle Wedding

As a regular Dundas Castle wedding photographer, I love the way you can create such beautiful couple pictures amongst the 400 acre estate.

The Dundas Castle which is in South Queensferry is one of Scotland’s most beautiful and historic castles and it is one of the top 5 star exclusive use venues in Britain. With only 6 miles from Edinburgh is a perfect location for any wedding. The modern castle itself was built in 1818 and oozes history.

As you enter the ground, it takes 2-3 minutes to drive up to the castle, you then realise you are in for a special day, it really was a fairytale wedding from start to finish. I got to spend the early part of the day with the groom and his 5 groomsmen as they got ready. The bride wanted to make sure there was photographic evidence of the groom ironing as he doesn’t do enough of that at home. After the groom and groomsmen were ready we went downstairs to relax prior to the ceremony starting and the groom and groomsmen had a game of snooker and a few beers.

The ceremony itself took place in the medieval tower of the Auld Keep within the castle, it was if it was straight out of a storybook as the groom along with the guests waited patiently as the Scottish piper lead the bride and bridesmaids up the spiral staircase into the great hall, where violinists performed as the bride walked down the aisle. It was a lovely ceremony and there was a huge cheer when the words “I pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride” was announced.

After the ceremony as the guests had refreshments as the piper entertained them we took the newly weds away for some photos. With such a stunning location there were so many great opportunities for photos. The scenery was truly breathtaking at the top of the tower as the bride and groom took a minute to take in a view as they gazed at the three iconic bridges.

The meal then followed, the whole wedding party stood as the cheft carried in the haggis, lead by the piper playing the bagpipes. The piper very entertainingly then recite the address to the haggis.

The cutting of the cake followed before the bride and groom had their first dance. There were lots of smiling and laughter throughout the evening as well as a very busy dance floor.

Edinburgh Wedding Photographer

Edinburgh Wedding

It was a pleasure photographing Francesca and Fraser’s wedding at the historic Royal Mile in the centre of Edinburgh. Francesca’s family flew in for the ceremony all the way from the Philippines and I have no doubt the Edinburgh wedding for the happy couple was well worth the flight alone.

It was a small ceremony but very emotional and nobody could have taken away that big smile away from the brides face.

With us being in the centre of Edinburgh, it gave us the perfect opportunity to take photos at Edinburgh Royal Mile before moving to Princess Street Gardens directly beneath the historic Edinburgh Castle. It was great photographing Francesca and Fraser, they were more than happy to get dragged around Edinburgh to get the best photos possible for them to always remember this day. With is being summertime in the capital there were several tourists and locals around and the newly weds felt a bit like celebrities with strangers taking photos and congratulating them.

It was amazing to be part of your special day, you, your friends and families were very friendly. I hope you enjoy the photos, I really enjoyed taking them, see below small selection from the day.

Cartland Bridge Hotel Wedding

As a regular Cartland Bridge Hotel wedding photographer, I love the way you can create such beautiful couple pictures amongst the 19 acres of woodland. The Cartland Bridge Hotel is situated in Lanarkshire and with under an hour from both Glasgow and Edinburgh makes it is an ideal venue.

It was a fun wedding, I got to hang out with the groom and his ushers and capture the moments of them getting ready with a lot of laughter and drinking to settle the nerves.

The ceremony itself was delayed as there was a parade happening in the town and the bride struggled to get to the venue, so this just added to the tension within the room, but she eventually got there much to the relief of the groom. It was a beautiful ceremony which was watched by over 100 friends and family, there were tears and smiles all round. After the ceremony was finished the ushers surprised the bride and groom by performing a number of songs.

We then had the opportunity to take the bride and groom around the 19 acres of woodland for some alone time and capture some couple photos of their day, even though they were a bit reluctant at the start they thanked us afterwards.

After the meals became the speeches and the best man produced the best speech I have witnessed by a best man, he surprised the bride and groom by getting his guitar and performing a hilarious song. After the evening guest arrived the bride and groom cut the wedding cake with a sword, and instead of the traditional style wedding cake this one was a unique cheese and pork pie wedding cake. The happy couple along with the guest danced the night away to a variety of music ranging from traditional Scottish Ceilidh to up to date chart music.

Leith Theatre Wedding

As a regular Leith Theatre Wedding Photographer, it is amazing to take photos is such a historic venue, the Leith Theatre was originally opened in 1932 but closed in 1988. The theatre has hosted the likes of Thin Lizzy and AC/DC is currently undergoing a huge transformation and is set to re-open again, to the delight of the community. It is a pleasure to take photos in such amazing venue.

We started early in Central Edinburgh where the bride and bridesmaids were getting ready at a beautiful Georgian townhouse at Hillside Crescent, with three floors and countless huge rooms, it was a perfect place to get ready. I then met the groom and his four groomsmen at Ocean Terminal where I captured the laughter and smiles of them while they were getting ready before we headed to Leith Theatre which was only a 10 minute walk.

A Scottish Piper was there to entertain the guests before the ceremony began, it was a lovely traditional Scottish Wedding which comprised of beautiful readings by close guests with lots of laughter and tears. As the ceremony was ending the piper lead the wedding party outside where the bride and groom participated in an old tradition called “jumping the broom” which goes all the way back to the 19th century, the newlyweds held hands and jumped over a broomstick.

With it being a beautiful summers day the piper entertained the guests outside whilst we took the bride and groom around the theatre for some couple photos, it was an amazing experience with history oozing out of every room we went into.

There were emotional speeches especially from the father of the bride that had everyone in laughter and tears. The evening comprised of a traditional Scottish Ceilidh where the guests joined the bride and groom on the dance floor.

New Mills Wedding Photographer

Northumberland Countryside Wedding

I had an amazing day shooting Claire and Nicky’s wedding in the beautiful New Mills countryside cottage this was definitely one of my favourite weddings. They chose New Mills as this is close to Claire’s heart as she used to visit here regularly when she was younger, so it was an ideal location to have thier wedding here. Claire and Nicky wanted their daughter Elle and son Jacob to play a part in the ceremony, so they were involved in the traditional Scottish marriage ceremony of handfasting. Elle and Jacob participated in “tying the knot”, where the hands of the bride and groom were tied together. It was a lovely ceremony, with lots of tears, smiles and laughter all round.

The forecast was rain all week, it was a little bit cold later in the day but thankfully is managed to stay dry to everyones delight. New Mills is a very scenic location set in 19 acres of it’s own beautiful ground, so it had lots of opportunities to take lovely photos. It was even easier with Claire and Nicky being the most amazing couple always smiling and laughing.

Some kind words from Claire and Nicky:

“Steven is an amazing photographer, we are so lucky to have been recommended him. He is very professional and friendly, putting us at ease and making us laugh all through the day. He had great ideas regarding locations but also listened to what we wanted too!! The photos are outstanding and I cannot wait to show everyone. Thank you Steven I cannot thank you enough!!”

I am so happy to have been a part of your day. You, your friends and families were so welcoming. I hope you enjoy looking through these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them, see below small selection from the day.

Marlins Wynd Wedding

As a regular Marlins Wynd wedding photographer, I love shooting weddings in such an amazing venue with the history dating back to the 1540’s. With Marlin’s Wynd set in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic old town, it is a perfect location for any wedding.

The bride and groom chose the traditional Scottish marriage ceremony of handfasting, where the hands of the bride and groom were tied together which is referred to as “tying the knot”. It was a lovely ceremony, with lots of tears, smiles and laughter from the bride, groom and guests. The bride looked beautiful in her dress as she proudly showed of her tattoos.

After the reception, we took the bride and groom out for photos around Edinburgh’s old town where they were I lost count on the number of strangers congratulating them on their big day. It was then time for the speeches and like the ceremony there were tears, smiles and laughter. Once the evening guests had arrived the bride and groom cut the wedding cake and then had their first dance. The happy couple along with all their guest then danced the night away.

April 24, 2016Edinburgh Wedding AnniversaryCathy & Stewart

Edinburgh Wedding Anniversary

40th Wedding Anniversary

I had such a fun day shooting Cathy and Stewarts 40th weddings anniversary, even after 40 years of marriage, they are still in love as much as they were when they first met. It was a beautiful summers day with not even a cloud in the sky, a rare thing living in Scotland. As an Edinburgh wedding photographer, I love taking photographs around my city.

Cathy and Stewart were looking to have photos together at their favourite locations around Edinburgh. We started off at South Queensferry where we took photos beside the iconic Forth Rail Bridge and Forth Road Bridge, this is a special place where Cathy and Stewart love visiting. Later we progressed onto Cramond which is another place that is close to their hearts as they used to go there when they first met.

After Cramond we headed up the Firth of Forth to the coastal suburb of Portobello, with 2 miles of golden sands it was a perfect location to take photos on the beach and reminded them of their regular romantic walks along the promenade. We then finished the day in central Edinburgh at Carlton Hill, with its grassy slopes and panoramic views of the city, including Edinburgh Castle and a great view North of the ruddy-coloured cliffs of Salisbury Crags at Arthur’s Seat it was an ideal location to finish off with some silhouettes with the sun was coming to down.

I loved spending the day with the two “love birds”,  below are my favourite selection of photos from the day, hope you enjoy them.
